Volunteer

Wonderful parent volunteers help make the production come to life!    

As part of the volunteer commitment to the program, all students are required to have a volunteer representative for the production.  Volunteers sign up for one or more Volunteer roles -- from Leadership Opportunities, to easy one-time-only spots. Volunteers will be needed for set-building, painting, poster distribution, costume fittings, props and sewing, box-office, concessions, and more!

Hair/Make-up (please braid at home if possible)

Information for Hair/Make-up preshow volunteers. Braids at home are helpful but we will be doing braids at the Theater.

IMPORTANT REMINDER

As a gentle reminder, general seating in our theater is first come first serve.  Saving seats with personal items is not accepted. Pre-show volunteers are able to save up to 2 seats.

We appreciate everyone coming to help STRIKE the show on Sunday, May 21, 4:00-5:30pm. This will be an important strike! Midsummer opens the following weekend! (please add this date to your calendar)

Concessions Team Leads (pre-show) coordinate w/ concessions volunteers, oversee stocking concessions and collecting proceeds.

House Managers (pre-show) coordinate with box-office volunteers, ushering, general house questions, proceeds.

Hair/Make-up (please braid at home if you can!)

- All actors: Hair in double/single french braids.  Boys may have hair in a low ponytail.  All hair away from the face.  Use gel on short hair to lift away from the face.

- Makeup: Basic beauty. We will not be face painting. Be generous with the blush. 

 - Eyes: Colors are Okay. No glitter. Boy characters can be more neutral. Wingtip eyeliner is okay to use.  

 - Blush: Be GENEROUS. All characters need blush. The stage lights will wash them out.

 - Lips: No lipstick. Tinted lip balm from home is Okay.

 - PLEASE USE DISPOSABLE APPLICATORS ONLY FOR LIPS AND EYES!!!  Single use, and toss.


Please start makeup AFTER the sound check. Our sound check is scheduled between 60-75 minutes before the start of the show. The theater is air conditioned but our large dressing/costume room area is not!!!  We would like to keep actors in the theater or in a cooler part of the building up until their mic check. After their mic check we can send them to get hair and makeup done before the show.

Costumes, sets, props

COSTUMES

Assist with costumes! Take home projects and on-site projects will be available. Choose a spot below to sign-up!

BASIC cutting out patterns, sewing on a button or a straight stitch.

INTERMEDIATE Following simple patterns, sewing hems, adding embellishments.  Tailoring and size adjustments. Comfortable hand stitching, following and stitching pinned adjustments

ADVANCED Following a pattern to construct a garment from scratch, make fitting adjustments, finishing work such as sewing in a zipper or sewing button-holes, hooks and eyes.

CONSTRUCTION costume construction that is not sewing related, such as craft projects that include the use of glue and adhesives, wire, foam and other mixed materials.

SET BUILDING

Set build volunteers assist our master carpenter, John Mirk, with set construction.  Some experience with use of power tools is appreciated but not required. 

SCHEDULE: Set building will take place on Friday afternoons and Saturdays.  Dates and Times TBD.

HELPER Little or no building experience. I can help tidy workstations, gather tools and materials, and potentially do some light construction/carpentry with supervision and assistance.

INTERMEDIATE Comfortable with power tools, measuring and cutting lumber, and working on construction/carpentry projects with some supervision.

EXPERIENCED Comfortable following instructions and/or renderings and heading construction/carpentry projects with minimal supervision.

SET PAINTING

Set painters will assist the Scenic Artist with painting set walls, set pieces, etc. Choose a spot below to sign-up! 

SCHEDULE: Friday afternoons and some Saturdays. TBD.

BASIC Help prime and base paint set pieces, and/or help tidy workstations, lay out tarps, open and seal paint cans, and wash tools and brushes.

SOME EXPERIENCE Comfortable painting textures and faux finishes with assistance and some supervision.

SKILLED  Experience painting textures and faux finishes, as well as effects such as bricks or stone. I can follow a sample and help oversee other volunteers.

PROPS

HELPER Pick up props and supplies. Drive to pick up curbside orders, pick up basic supplies from retail stores, and/or meet with sellers from online marketplaces.

FIND/THRIFT Help find props and supplies through thrifting, online marketplaces, going to retail stores, and/or borrowing.

CRAFT some crafting experience. Can use tools such as a hot glue gun or exacto knife, and am comfortable cutting materials such cardboard and craft foam.

SKILLED CRAFTER can follow instructions and/or pictures and am comfortable working in a variety of mediums, such as clay, foam, wire, paper mache, acrylic paint, etc.


General Production


Playbill Program Design 

I can assist the Production Manager with edits to the playbill using online software LucidPress. 

Playbill/Program Ads & Sponsorships


Ads Coordinator 

I can oversee the coordination and organization of ads and sponsorships in the playbill.  Ensuring that the ads are paid and received and sent to the playbill/program editor/designer. 


Ads Outreach 

I can reach out to the community for ads sponsorships in the Playbill. 


Poster Distribution

I can help distribute posters for the show!


Leadership Roles, Tech Week, Performances

TEAM LEADS

These wonderful volunteers fulfill much needed leadership roles for the production.


Concessions Team Lead 

Communicates with concessions volunteers to organize what is needed for donations, and concessions procedures.


House Manager Right Hand 

Assist House Manager with answering questions at the door, tickets, ushering guests, etc.  Oversee House and Box Office, Ushering.


Strike Leader

Delegates and coordinates strike volunteers (all families called to participate in strike)


Set Up Chairs

Wednesday, January 11th at 2pm.


Help set up audience seating in the theater.  6 spots available.


Performance Weekend Volunteers

These sign-ups will be available closer to the time of performances. 

Box Office, Concessions, Hair & Make-up, Backstage  (costume changes), Snacks, tidying the theater, and more!

Hair and Makeup

These sign-up spots will officially become available closer to performances. We'd love to know if you have any special skills to share!

MAKEUP -  Makeup volunteers will assist performers with stage makeup as directed during tech week and before performances. (pre-show)

BASIC Basic makeup experience. Simple makeup such as light eyeshadow, mascara, lipstick, and blush. 

INTERMEDIATE Beauty/glamor makeup experience. Comfortable applying false eyelashes, using makeup to contour, sculpting brows, and doing more complex beauty makeup.

ADVANCED I have stage makeup or face painting experience. I have a steady hand and feel comfortable using makeup to alter a performer's appearance and/or do facepaint designs.

THEATRICAL FX I have special effects makeup experience. I feel comfortable applying prosthetics, using an airbrush, and utilizing makeup to alter a performer's appearance.

HAIR - Assist performers with styling their hair and putting on wigs during tech week and before performances.

BASIC -  I have some hair styling experience. I can assist performers with brushing and blow drying their hair if needed and do a neat ponytail, simple braid, or bun.

INTERMEDIATE - I can french braid, use a curling iron, and am comfortable styling and setting hair.

SKILLED - Comfortable doing complicated hairstyles, and can follow a picture reference to achieve a look.

WIGS - Experienced putting on wigs and/or know how to style wigs.


POST SHOW!  Not to be overlooked!

Striking the show!

“STRIKE" takes place during the week after performances.  Set strike team will be needed to deconstruct the set/restore the stage, pack up props and costumes, return borrowed costumes or props, launder and pack costumes.


Post Show Helpers


Laundering Costumes - Take home a bundle, wash it, dry it, return it. That's it!

Packing Laundered Costumes - Help us put away costumes. They are labeled - it's super easy, but we need helpers!
