INFORMATION: * Double cast role, ** Understudy role, and *** Role content disclosure for Angus/Caterpillar

(OPEN)

* Double-cast role. The production will perform over two (2) performance weekends.

Actors assigned to double-cast roles will perform one (1) full performance weekend (four [4] performances) in their primary role and one (1) full performance weekend (four [4] performances) in a supporting/secondary role.

When not performing their primary role, actors may be assigned to appear in the ensemble for musical numbers in which their primary character is not featured.

**Understudy role: Actors assigned to an understudy role may also be cast in featured ensemble roles, as needed to support the production.

Understudies are expected to participate fully in the rehearsal process, attend all required understudy rehearsals and run-throughs, and remain performance-ready at all times in the event the primary actor is unable to perform.

To recognize the preparation and commitment required of understudy performers, each understudy will be guaranteed two (2) Saturday matinee performances during the run of the production.

These guaranteed understudy performances are in addition to the actor’s scheduled performances in any double-cast role to which they are assigned. The actor will continue to perform their double-cast role on their designated performance dates, except when performing as the understudy.

*** Role Content Disclosure – Angus / Caterpillar

The role of Angus / Caterpillar includes scripted depictions involving theatrical representations of smoking as part of the storytelling in Alice By Heart.

  • In Real World scenes, the character of Angus will briefly use a prop cigarette.

  • In Wonderland scenes, the Caterpillar character interacts with a hookah prop, and within the context of the story encourages Alice to join them.

All smoking-related elements are non-functional props only and are used solely to reflect the original text and thematic symbolism of the source material. No real tobacco or substances are used at any time.

These moments are presented in a stylized, theatrical manner and are not intended to promote or glamorize smoking, but rather to support the narrative and character development within the production.

Performers with questions or concerns about this content are encouraged to contact the production team prior to accepting the role.

HOW TO DRESS FOR TECH REHEARSALS & SHOWS

Please read out loud at home to your child:

  1. Wear your undergarments underneath your street clothes to rehearsal.

  2. Remove your street clothes when you get to rehearsal/show.

  3. Before putting on your costume, a technician will attach your mic belt and headset. DO NOT PUT YOUR COSTUME ON BEFORE YOUR MIC BELT (unless instructed to do so)

  4. After your mic is on, change into your costume

  5. After your costume is on, you will wait in the dressing room until called to the stage for a sound check

  6. After rehearsal, you will LEAVE YOUR CHARACTER SHOES in the dressing room at OYES.

PLEASE  ARRIVE WITH YOUR UNDERGARMENTS ALREADY ON.

IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS FOR MIC EQUIPMENT

  • Never touch the mics.

  • The only person(s) permitted to adjust or remove the mic on the actor's face or the pack in their belt is a MIC TECHNICIAN.

  • Any accidental damage to a mic by mishandling (or dropping) can cost $$$ to replace.

  • Never touch the mic on your face, tug on the wire, or touch the pack in your mic belt.

Final Reminders

It is important to remember that absences are not permitted during tech week. Cast members are expected to attend all rehearsals they are called for unless prior approval has been given. Any absences from tech rehearsal can disrupt the planning, timing, and efficiency of the rehearsal process.

Finally, please remember that a musical is a living, breathing entity! Things don’t always go exactly as planned, so changes to the plan may be made during the rehearsal process. We promise to give you as much advance notice as possible on all changes that arise.

In case you missed it, Please read about attendance and conflicts.

(OPEN)

Common questions

Q: Can I add more schedule conflicts later?

No. All conflicts must be added by Auditions.  Additional conflicts may only be added with permission from the Director.

Q: Are conflicts listed here considered "excused absences"?

Yes

Q: What if I or my child is sick or there's an emergency?

Emergency or Sick-Days are excused.

Unavailability for rehearsals can seriously affect rehearsal planning.  We can not add conflicts later.  All conflicts are due before the first rehearsal.  If the actor misses a rehearsal that is planned around their scheduled availability, it is the actors responsibility to "catch up".  Private rehearsal time with the directors is $45/hr.

Please, no additional conflicts (planned absences) or changes in availability after the first rehearsal.  The rehearsal schedule will be set and all actors will be expected to attend as planned. Thank you  :)
